Is makeup gender neutral?
The buzz around makeup being gender neutral has been increasing overtime.
Especially with influencers like Ankush Bahuguna among many others being open about their interest in makeup, it has become far more important to address this.
Is makeup really gender neutral?
Let me spit some facts about makeup:
- It’s not feminine in nature.
- Covering up spots, dark circles, enhancing the look of your jaw and eyes are some of the benefits of using beauty products.
- One of the earliest cultures to use beauty products was ancient Egypt where both men and women have been known to indulge in makeup.
It’s funny how all these years the society has taught us to relate makeup with only women.
It was not only the Egyptian culture which is known for their significant use of makeup but also the Indian culture is famous for this.
Kajal being the most used product across the country was worn by most of the Hindu Rajas and Ranis.
So, how have we been able to twist our past and made beauty feminine?
Makeup is widely known to be used by women, no doubt in this but men were never given the choice to hate it or love it.
It is considered a shame if a man wears makeup, something to do with their masculinity.
Trying to fathom how just anything can affect a man’s masculinity.
As if being born a man is not enough to prove this.
Our society has created this insane amount of pressure, not only on women but on men to want a certain thing, to be a certain way and to live a certain life.
I believe it’s high time we break the barriers and live life however we want.
That’s all for today, folks!
Toodaloo.
